Risk Disclosure and Disclaimer.
What Thetavio is, what it is not, and which risks remain when trading.
Thetavio is a tool for documenting and analysing your own trades. It is not investment advice, not tax advice and not a substitute for your broker’s documents. All calculations are made to the best of our knowledge, but without guarantee. You make your investment decisions alone and at your own risk.
1.No investment advice, no recommendation
All content of Thetavio, in particular
- overviews of positions, strategies, campaigns and dividends,
- metrics such as realised and unrealised profit and loss, return, annualised return, break-even and virtual break-even,
- calculators for potential returns, combinations and target and stop prices,
- strategies and rolls detected automatically during import,
- exchange rates, stock prices, company names and logos,
serves exclusively to inform you and to document your own transactions. It takes into account neither your personal and financial circumstances nor your investment objectives or your risk tolerance.
It does not constitute investment advice, an investment recommendation, financial analysis or a solicitation to buy or sell financial instruments. Values that you set yourself in a calculator, such as target or stop prices, are your own inputs and not a recommendation from us.
2.No tax or legal advice
Euro amounts, realised gains, withholding taxes and other analyses are not determined in accordance with tax regulations. In particular, they do not take into account tax specifics such as restrictions on offsetting losses, the treatment of option writer premiums and forward transactions, foreign currency gains or tax rules on the order of disposal.
The analyses of Thetavio are not a basis for your tax return. The tax certificates and statements of your broker are authoritative. For tax questions, please consult a tax adviser.
3.Limits of the calculations
We prepare all calculations to the best of our knowledge. Nevertheless, values may be incomplete, inaccurate or wrong. Typical causes are:
- Import: Broker reports are analysed automatically. The assignment may be incorrect, for example for exercises and assignments, rolls, partial fills, corporate actions such as splits, multi-leg strategies, contract sizes or fees. The automatic detection of strategies and rolls is based on rules and approximations.
- Exchange rates: We use the European Central Bank’s reference rates for the respective day or the rates supplied by the broker. The rates actually applied by your broker or bank may differ.
- Price data: Stock prices come from third-party providers and may be delayed, incomplete or incorrect.
- Projections: Annualised and projected values are arithmetical extrapolations, not forecasts.
- Costs: Metrics only include the costs that are expressly shown. Spreads, interest or taxes may be missing.
- Your own inputs: Results are only as accurate as the data entered or imported.
- Software: Despite careful development, the software may contain errors.
Always check values on which you base decisions against your broker’s original statements.
4.Risks of trading options and other financial instruments
Trading in shares, options and other financial instruments involves considerable risks:
- Total loss: You can lose the entire capital invested.
- Losses beyond the amount invested: When selling options, in particular uncovered calls, losses are theoretically unlimited. Margin requirements may trigger additional payments or a forced liquidation by the broker.
- Leverage: Small price movements can lead to disproportionate gains or losses.
- Exercise and assignment: American-style options can be exercised at any time. An assignment can lead to unexpected stock positions and capital requirements.
- Time value and volatility: Option prices react strongly to the remaining term and volatility.
- Liquidity: Positions cannot always be closed at the desired time or price.
- Currency: Transactions in foreign currency involve exchange rate risks.
- Issuer and counterparty: The insolvency of an issuer can lead to a total loss.
Past results are not a reliable indicator of future results. Only trade with capital you can afford to lose.
5.Personal responsibility
Thetavio is aimed at people who already trade financial instruments independently and understand their risks. You decide on your transactions alone and at your own risk. If in doubt, seek professional advice.
6.No licence as a financial services provider
Thetavio is not a credit institution, financial services institution or investment firm and is not supervised by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Thetavio does not provide any banking, financial or investment services requiring authorisation, does not execute transactions for you and does not manage assets. To trade, you need an account with an authorised broker.
7.Third-party data and services
Third-party interfaces and data, such as the IBKR Flex Web Service, price sources or the European Central Bank’s exchange rates, may fail, change or deliver incorrect values. We have no influence over this.
8.Liability
You are responsible for decisions you make on the basis of content or calculations of the platform. Our liability is governed by § 13 of the Terms and Conditions. Under it, we are liable without limitation in particular for intent and gross negligence, and otherwise only to a limited extent.
